Drainage work often means cutting a trench across a residential lawn, working around existing features. We recently completed a drainage trench excavation in a residential backyard, navigating the space between retaining walls and an established tree.

The situation
The site was a residential section with a grassy lawn that needed a drainage trench. The work had to be done around an existing tree and alongside a concrete retaining wall structure.
The trench needed to be dug to a depth that exposed the soil profile clearly, creating a defined channel ready for drainage installation.
What we did
We brought in a mini digger, which worked well in the confined space between the retaining walls and around the tree. The compact machine allowed us to excavate the trench with precision while staying clear of the existing structures.
Our operator excavated to the required depth, exposing the soil layers and creating a clean channel. Hand tools and equipment were on site to support the excavation and prepare the trench for the next stage of the drainage work.

The result
The trench was left clean and ready for drainage installation. The excavation was completed to the required depth with clear soil exposure, and the site was left in a condition that allowed the drainage work to proceed.
The lawn around the trench remained undisturbed, and the work was completed without damage to the tree or the retaining walls that bordered the site.
